Russian companies attacked by “Western trojan”
The virus Regin is used to hack Microsoft mail servers and tap in the main international networks.
The antivirus company Symantec (USA) has found a new virus called Regin. Russian telecommunication companies are its target. The Western special services are said to have created the virus. Specialists compare it to Regin from Stuxnet (it appeared four years ago). However, the new virus has better technical features than its predecessor. It probably took years to write it.
Specialists have not understood how the virus infects industrial systems yet, RIA Novosti reports. However, it has already been used to attack Internet service providers in Russia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Ireland and Iran.
According to Symantec, Regin has already been used to hack Microsoft mail servers and to tap international phone networks.
