100 Ukrainian fans detained before Putin’s arrival to Belarus
The police have accused them of swearing in Barysau Arena, unofficial sources report.
Belarus and Ukraine played a match of the selection tour of the Euro-2016 yesterday. Ukraine won 2:0. Ukrainian fans sang a song about Putin in bad language and kept shouting Live Belarus! And Glory to Ukraine. Glory to heroes! Belarusians supported Ukrainians. Our citizens could see and hear it all live on Belarus 2.
The police started detaining Ukrainian fans after the match, football.ua reports. Over 100 people were seized. The Ukrainian edition was probably mistaken and wrote that they were taken ‘to KGB’. They were most likely taken to a police office. The Ukrainian fans will stand trials today. They may be fined and deported from Belarus. The most active ones may be jailed. No official information about the incident has been presented yet.
The Ukrainian Embassy is dealing with the problem of the mass detention of Ukrainian citizens now.
The summit of CIS leaders will be held in Minsk on Friday. Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend it.
