Activists detained on Native Tongue Day fined
Five people who detained for putting up posters on the Native Tongue Day were released. Two of them were fined 9 million rubles.
Activists who put up posters for the Native Tongue Day on Yakub Kolas Square in Minsk on February 20 were released from the police station. Two of them were fined 50 basic units - about 9 millions each.
Euroradio learned about it from the activist Aleg Korban.
Aleg Korban: "They all, and it is 5 people, are free. Among them is photographer Syargey Gudzilin. They were released without protocols except Syargei Kachar and Uladzislau Zapasau. The court of the Soviet district of Minsk found them guilty and fined them 50 basic units."
Activists managed to put up only two posters for the Native Tongue Day at the avenue, adds Aleg Korban. Then they caught the attention of the police. The Native Tongue Day is celebrated on 21 February.
