Belarus to introduce changes to laws 'On Refugees' and 'On Citizenship'
Belarus is preparing amendments to the law "On Refugees". This was announced by Head of the Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Aliaksey Byahun.
According to international experts, the Belarusian legislation relating to refugees is the most advanced in the CIS. Our laws are cutting-edge when it comes to the procedures, terms and mechanisms, which include foreign nationals arriving in the country and trying to obtain refugee status. However, the Interior Ministry is planning to make the procedure for obtaining refugee status even easier. It is planned to reduce the period of the application review. Previously, foreigners could live in Belarus for up to 1.5 years, waiting for the final decision, says head of the department.
"Now they are trying to obtain a refugee status, if they fail - a shelter, trying to appeal the denial. Under the new rules all the procedures can be completed in 6 months," SB quotes the words of Byahun.
Thereis now being prepared for review the law "On External Labor Migration". It will adjust the employment of foreigners in Belarus and of Belarusians - abroad. Changes will be made in the law "On Citizenship". Becoming a citizen of the Republic of Belarus after that will be more difficult. It is even planned to test the knowledge of one of the official languages and the basics of history.
