The Ministry of Communications and IT is sending text messages under a free-of-charge deal with the Central Election Commission.
A Minsk Euroradio website visitor has received an SMS from the Central Election Committee. The message says: “Voter! Take part in the elections! Your vote is important. Central Election Commission.”
Mobile service provider are sending the messages for the CEC for free, CEC secretary Mikalai Lazavik said.
"This is a new service for us. It may seem an old technology to some people but it is new for us. Everyone will get this message – even those who are thinking about boycotting the elections and want to thumb their noses behind our backs,” Mikalai Lazavik told Euroradio.
Every Belarusian will get this SMS, he said.
