EurAsEC to have EU-like Parliament

"The agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union that has to be signed by January 1, 2015 will include a chapter dedicated to its parliamentary structure,” BelTA quotes Leonid Slutski, head of the Russian Duma Committee on CIS Affairs.

The experience of the EU may be used during the creation of the Eurasian Parliament, the MP noted. “The European Parliament is the parliamentary basis in Europe now,” Slutski added. “It is elected by direct people’s election unlike many inter-parliamentary assemblies where members are delegated by national parliaments. The Eurasian Parliament will be based on the same principle.”
