Lukashenka meets head of Russian Security Council, Ukraine is discussed
Nikolai Patrushev has arrived in Minsk to discuss ‘Security Council issues’.
“The West should not use Ukraine to exercise pressure on Russia”, Lukashenka said. Its sanctions do not only affect the Russian economy. They affect the whole post-Soviet territory, he noted.
The Belarusian leader drew attention to the thing Moscow was afraid of: “Ukraine should remain Ukraine and should not become another NATO base near our borders. “It is also important for our country, Lukashenka said. “It would be good if this Slavonic people stayed close to us,” he confessed.
Ukrainians are choosing their future themselves, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said. “Let them organize their life the way they want. They should not create problems for their neighbours and that’s it.” Nobody expects Ukraine in the West, the Belarusian President thinks. The situation will be stabilized in the future and ‘the [Ukrainian politicians’] distraction will be gone,’ Interfax-West reports.
The Belarusian and Russian Security Councils should ‘look into future and coordinate their positions and actions if necessary’, Alyaksandr Lukashenka told Nikolai Patrushev.
