The preliminary investigation of Yury Zaharanka, Viktar Hanchar and Anatol Krasouski’s cases has been suspended. Relatives of the missing politicians Iryna Krasouskaya, Zinaida Hanchar and Zaharanka’s family trustee Aleh Vouchak have received the notices from the law-enforcement, the TV channel Belsat reports.
The state has stopped looking for the opponents of the authorities who went missing 19 years ago and for the people guilty of their disappearance, head of the Belarusian Document Centre Raisa Mihailouskaya said. The missing politicians’ relatives will appeal this decision, she assured.
The UN Human Rights Committee recommended that Belarus introduced criminal responsibility for abductions in October 2018. There is no such notion in the Belarusian legislation and there are no abductions either, Belarus’ representatives claimed.
