Belarus opposition will not to get into parliament - Klaskouski
The state will support candidates promoting the idea of Belarus’ independence and those who are against shocking economic reforms at the parliamentary election, Alyaksandr Lukashenka announced on May 24.
The statement itself is illegal, Alyaksandr Klaskouski thinks. According to the law, all candidates should be put in equal conditions. If the state gives priority to some of them, it is an example of legal nihilism and arbitrariness.
“This is strange. Ms. Yarmoshyna is advertising our future democratic progress and then it is openly announced that the administrative resource will be used. Looks like Alyaksandr Lukashenka accidentally read out a document meant for internal use,” the expert said.
The state leader promised to select reliable candidates in that statement, Klaskouski thinks. The fact that candidates who are against shocking reforms should be supported means that those who do not want to change the existing system will be preferred.
Klaskouski: “People with market thinking will be ‘banned’ in some way. This is a courtesy to ‘BPFers’ and ‘the fifth column’ (this is how the government calls the opposition) and the Russian world phobia at the same time.”
The Belarusian President’s statement means that people who want reforms should not be allowed in the government. It means that the opposition will not be supported by the authorities, the exprt believes.
