Lithuanian politician: Belarus has spy network in Lithuania
This network has suffered a major hit from the special services, Artūras Paulauskas thinks.
Belarus was creating a spy network in Lithuania but it has suffered a major hit now, head of the Lithuanian Committee on National Security and Defence Artūras Paulauskas claimed. ‘Belarusian spies’ are looking for Lithuanian citizens ready ‘to work for them and sell the secrets of the Lithuanian Republic’, he said. However, the counterintelligence has managed to reveal the network thanks to hard work.
The spies worked for the Belarusian Army, Paulauskas claimed. However, he is sure that the Belarusians also shared the information with their Russian colleges. Some agents have probably managed to avoid arrest, Delfi refers to the Lithuanian politician.
By the way, Lithuanian special services have used ‘the Belarusian spy network scandal’ to ask for more financing.
Lithuanian special services also detained a Belarusian ‘spy’ who had worked for the state enterprise Oro navigacija. Information about another ‘spy’ who worked as a sanitary instructor in the Lithuanian Army appeared yesterday.
