Lower visa prices for Belarusians coming soon
The statement was made by Deputy Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia of the European External Action Service Gunnar Wiegand in an interview to Euroradio.
Wiegand: "Negotiations went well. In fact, we can say that the text of the agreement is ready, it is ready for initialing and later for signing. This applies to the agreements on visa facilitation and readmission agreements for illegal migrants - both agreements are ready for signing. There is one thing though - the Belarusian diplomatic passports are to meet the requirements applied to the ordinary passports. That is, they must meet the highest requirements in the field of security. And it is the only technical issue that is being discussed and debated effectively. We hope that this issue will soon be resolved."
The delegation of the European External Action Service, which is headed by Gunnar Wiegand is on a visit in Belarus on 9 and 10 December. Members of the delegation will meet with representatives of the Belarusian authorities, opposition and civil society. The purpose of the visit is to assess the state of relations between the EU and Belarus, to discuss further next steps for cooperation.
