Myasnikovich: No reason for surge of inflation in Belarus

There is no reason for a surge of inflation in Belarus, PM Mihail Myasnikovich announced on Belarus-1 on December 21.

The Prime Minister does not think that the inflation rate will go up by 30% following the introduction of the foreign currency purchase fee. “Our energy sector is protected, the deposits are protected and the wages will stick to the number indicated for 2014-2015,” BELTA quotes him.

The enterprises will not have to pay the fee when buying oil, natural gas, electricity and hydrocarbon. Importers will make profit anyway because they will be in a better position than importers in Russia or Ukraine where the devaluation rate has reached 180% and 200%. ‘Some imported goods will become more expensive, but Belarus produces similar goods at a lower price, the official noted.

Deposits in Belarusian roubles are protected now, the PM noted. Every citizen has the right to buy and sell foreign currency without restrictions now, he added. However, there is a 30% fee.
