Official Minsk: Kiev government is legitimate
President Lukashenka tells Russian TV channel NTV that Ukraine's interim President Alexander Turchinov and the parliament 'absolutely legitimate'.
"According to their Constitution, if the President is missing, the head of the Verkhovna Rada becomes acting President. There is no president in this country now. Naturally, the country needs to have a president according to the Constitution. Turchinov is holding the office now. He is absolutely legitimate to me. And the Verkhovna Rada is absolutely legitimate too,” BelaPAN quotes the Belarusian leader.
Turchinov told him on March 29 that the Ukrainian coup was unconstitutional, Lukashenka claimed. “He did not dispute the issue. Both of us have an opinion about it. I believe that he is a clever person and understands that it was not done according to the Constitution,” the Belarusian President said.
