Regnum's authors to stay in jail until end of trial

The authors of the Russian information agency Regnum will stay in jail until the end of the trial. Minsk City Court has not changed the measure of detention for Yury Paulavets and Syarhei Shyptenka (their lawyers filed the corresponding petitions).

Paulavets and Shyptenka are accused of arousing racial, national and religious hostility and of illegal business. Dzmitry Alimkin is accused of arousing hostility. All the three were detained at the end of 2016. It turned out that they were using pennames to write articles about the situation in Belarus for Regnum. Paulavets received from 20 to 200 dollars for every article in 2010-2016. He made at least 40 thousand Russian rubles by doing illegal business.

The fourth person involved in the case is Belarusian citizen Yury Baranchyk. He is the editor-in-chief of the analytical staff of Regnum in Moscow. The man is accused of arousing racial, national and religious hostility. Baranchyk is wanted by Interpol. He was detained in Moscow but was let off soon afterwards. Yury Baranchyk’s case will be considered separately.
