Opposition unites “on platform” and invites others there
Representatives of 6 movements and parties announced that they had united on June 29 and invited all the protesting forces to join them.
Representatives of six parties and movements gathered in the office of the BPF Party and announced that they had united and created a single platform. Vital Rymasheuski represented the steering committee for the creation of the political party “Belarusian Christian Democracy”. Ihar Laylkou represented the BPF Party, Syarhei Vaznyak – the steering committee for the creation of the civil association “Tell the Truth”, Alyaksandr Milinkevich – the movement “For Freedom”, Anatol Lyabedzka – the United Civil Party and Syarhei Kalyakin – the Belarusian party of the left “Fair World”.
They claimed that they had created a single platform to conduct joint actions. Their aims are: to struggle for the release of political prisoners and to create a single system of actions for the organization of the people’s resistance. The participants of the meeting confessed that they were constantly contacting the organizers of the Revolution in Social Networks.
Moreover, the present defined their notion of true, fair and transparent elections. Parliamentary elections will be held in Belarus soon and the main term for their recognition will be the release of political prisoners. The politicians did not reply whether they would take part in the parliamentary elections. Everything will depend on fact whether the terms they have elaborated and signed will be fulfilled or not.
The politicians confirmed that they would not criticize or cast slurs on one another. Rymasheuski said that it was not a closed club or some political mafia. They will be open to criticism and they will criticize if it is necessary. They will also criticize independent mass media if there is a reason to do it.
Euroradio asked them why the opposition had not been able to unite earlier. Could the lack of a leader be the reason for it? Syarhei Kalyakin said that the opposition had not been uncoordinated. “We have never aimed at leadership”, - claimed Anatol Lyabedzka and Vital Rymasheuski. They added that they would not elect a leader, there would be no voting. Only the people can choose a leader.
It was stressed that the platform “was open to expansion”.
