Russia wants to sell buckwheat from state reserve
The Russian authorities are hoping to stop the increase of prices for buckwheat this way.
The prices for buckwheat have increased by 27.5% since the beginning of October. Russian citizens are buying out all buckwheat now. Furthermore, the crop of buckwheat in Siberia and the Urals is poor this year.
The government is considering the possibility of opening the Russian State Reserve to stabilize the situation, head of the Association of Producers and Suppliers of Food in Russian Food Union Dmitri Ostrikov told Kommersant. The Association of Retail Companies CEO Andrei Karpov also knows about such a plan.
The government takes such measures when the prices for essential goods may greatly increase. It happened in 2011 last time. About 300 tons of granulated sugar was supplied to the market back then.
