Pollster: 53% ready to vote for Lukashenka’s rival
Lukashenka’s ratings went up to almost 40% in March against around 35% in December 2013.
The number of citizens who trust Alyaksandr Lukashenka has exceeded the number of those who don’t: 46% vs. 44%. The results of the national survey have been published by the Independent Institute of Socio-Economic and Political Studies.
At the same time, ‘the number of people who understand that a person ruling the country for almost two decades cannot keep blaming others for numerous flops in the social, economic, civil and political development of the state is gradually increasing’, experts noted.
According to the IISEPS, 24% of the pollees said that the fact when one and the same person controls the country for many years leads to stagnation and lag in comparison with other states, 21.6% – to the increase of corruption, abuse and arbitrary rule (although ‘it provides stability in the country’, a quarter of the pollees think.) One more quarter thinks that ‘it does not matter who rules the country – it is essential that they stick to the law’.
Despite the increase of the President’s ratings, the number of those who think that ‘the situation in our country is developing in a wrong direction’ exceeds the number of those who share the opposite opinion, IISEPS experts say – 46.2% vs. 40.2%.
55.1% would like to change the situation in the country rather than preserve it the way it is (36.5%).
Answering the question whether it is possible to improve the quality of life for Belarusians ‘with this government and policy’, 43.8% said ‘no’ and 47.1% – ‘yes’.
53.2% of the pollees are ready to vote for the person who could compete with Lukashenka at the next presidential election and 34.5% want to vote for Lukashenka, BelaPAN reports.
