Statkevich reveals plan to celebrate Belarusian Popular Republic's 100 years

Opposition politician, ex-presidential candidate and former political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich has shared plans to mark the 100th anniversary of the independence of the Belarusian People’s Republic in Minsk on March 25. A group of political and civil activists (Mikalai Statkevich, Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu, Pavel Sevyarynets and others) gathered on January 8, he wrote on Facebook. They supported the idea of setting up a committee to organize a mass celebration of March 25 in Minsk. The first meeting of the committee will take place on January 16.
“The working group is planning to submit an application for a festive manifestation to Minsk City Executive Committee to let the authorities demonstrate their commitment to Belarus’ independence,” Statkevich wrote. “Freedom Day should demonstrate the unity and strength of the Belarusian people,” the politician noted.
Statkevich suggests to visit the sites linked with the history of the Belarusian People’s Republic during the rally. The demonstration is planned to start in Yakub Kolas Square and end in Independence Square.
