Anatol Lyabedzka urges to audit EU's assistance to Belarus
United Civil Party chair Anatol Lyabedzka tells EU officials in Brussels to double check pseudo-democratic NGOs in Belarus.
Speaking at the meeting of Euronest - Eastern Partnership's Parliamentary Assembly's working group on Belarus in Brussels on May 29, Mr Lyabedzka suggested auditing the financial assistance provided by democratic countries for the development of civil society in Belarus.
In comments to Radio Racyja, Mr Lyabedzka noted he was surpised to hear officials in Brussels saying that the support for civil society and political opposition in Belarus had doubled.
According to Mr Lyabedzka, there are independent media, human rights defenders and political structures. But there are also some pseudo-democratic organizations.
The politician's proposal was supported by Euronest parliamentarians. The working group will study the efficiency of EU's aid to Belarus at the next meeting.
