Andrei Haidukou to stand 'spy case' trial at 10 a.m. on June 12
Vitsebsk regional court judge Halina Urbanovich will preside at the closed-door hearing of the state treason case.
The KGB head Valery Vakulchyk said on May 30 that the trial would be held behind closed doors. However, an official decision is yet to be issued by the court.
Human rights defenders from HRC "Vyasna" and the Belarusian Helsinki Committee have come up with a joint statement calling for the authorities to grant an open trial. The activist's mother also insists on an open trial.
State treason suspect Andrei Haidukou has been in custody for 7 months already, reminds the website of the human right center "Vyasna". According to the KGB, the young man was arrested when "making a recess with the information that might be of interest for foreign intelligence services." He faces from sevn to fifteen years in prison, if convicted.
