A Belarusian diplomat was shot and wounded in the Turkish capital city of Ankara, reports TUT.by quoting the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.
Anatol Hlaz, the spokesman for the Belarusian foreign ministry, said the shooter was mentally unstable.
“A Belarus embassy counselor was attacked on his way back home with his child. He was fired at several times,” the spokesman said.
The diplomat identified as Aliaksandr Pohanshau was attacked by his neighbor, a retired soldier, according to Ankara governor Vasip Sahin. He added that the diplomat was taken to a hospital in Ankara in a critical condition and was receiving treatment. The governor ruled out the attack was politically motivated.
