Belnaftakhim explains steady fuel price at pump
Belarus's petrochemical state-owned monopoly Belnaftakhim has explained why gasoline prices are not going down together with oil prices. Its official website says that over the past year and at the beginning of 2016 in Belarus, the retail price of motor fuel, established in Belarusian rubles, did not change. At the same time, Belnaftakhim noted, the prices in dollar terms did go down.
On July 1, 2015, the retail price for A-92 gasoline was $0.72 per liter, on February 5, 2016 - $0.52 (about 28% less), diesel fuel - $0.78 and $0.55, respectively (29.5% less). A ton of oil delivered to Belarus at the time cost $255.88 and $182.63 (a decrease of almost 29%).
"In the foreign currency equivalent, the prices decreased in proportion to the cost of oil, which the Belarusian oil refineries purchase of the Russian Federation for the foreign currency based on the price formula," said the press service of the concern. It turns out that from July 1 last year to date in US dollars, based on exchange rate of the Belarusian ruble, retail prices of automotive fuel dropped in the same way as the price of oil, an average of 28.7%.
Belnaftakhim noted that the cost of fuel at filling stations in Belarus remains the lowest among the neighboring countries, except Russia.
