Breakthrough in US-Cuba relations
The American President and Cuban leaders have made their speeches simultaneously.
U.S. President Barack Obama has suggested that the Congress lifted the Cuban embargo and restored relations with the island, BBC reports. The 50-year policy of restrictions is not working, Obama admitted.
The USA does not refuse from the support of freedom and democracy worldwide, he said. However, it can be done in different ways on order to avoid confrontation.
Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon and Pope Francis have greeted the improvement in the US-Cuba relations.
The American President made his speech at the same time when Cuban leader Raul Castro was making his announcement. Castro repeated the American leader’s words and noted that a dialogue and cooperation were better than confrontation in the modern world. However, Castro did not refuse from revolutionary principles.
