Brest resident to stand trial for performance act near province's office

As Euroradio reported earlier, on December 15 civil activist Ales Charkashyn made a public appeal on the doorsteps of Brest regional executive committee's office. During his performance, he was repenting for the sins committed by the Belarusian authorities before the people. The activist was wearing a Bible prophet outfit and had red paint on his tied hands, which symbolized blood of the Belarusian people.

Charkashyn was detained by the police 10 minutes after the action and taken to to Leninski district police station. Medical aidmen took him away from there. The activist spent the night in the mental hospital.

BCD activist from Brest Zmitser Shurkhai has told Euroradio that Ales Charkashyn was sent back to the police department on December 16.

Shurkhai: "They transported him to Leninski district police department and charged him with staging an unauthorized event and left him in the detention center overnight. The trial will take place at approximately 9 a.m., as they told me in the police."

The results of the activist's psychiatric examination are still unknown. The activist is unavailable since December 15.
