CEC: Statkevich’s nominating group listed as registered by mistake

The Central Election Committee has published the list of registered nominating groups that can collect signatures in support of potential candidates that can run for the paliament. The name of ex-political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich  was spotted on that list in Staravilenskaya constituency No 105 despite the fact that he had been refused registration earlier.

“This is our technical error,” CEC secretary Mikalai Lazavik, told Euroradio about 10 minutes later. “It was on the list of applicants and the names of those whose nominating groups have not been registered had to be removed. Mikalai Statkevich’s name was left there by mistake. Statkevich’s nokminating group has not been registered. It cannot be registered because Statkevich has previous convictions. Registration is not allowed in such cases.”

Mikalai Statkevich’s name was removed from the CEC list of registered nominating groups immediately.
