All-around checkup reveals no safety threats at Belarusian NPP

Am all-around checkup was conducted at the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Atsraviec District near the border with Lithuania. No major violations affecting the safety of the station (the level of radiation and nuclear safety) have been revealed, the State Nuclear Energy Inspectorate reports. Nevertheless, some of the revealed violations indicated that it was necessary to increase the level of cooperation between the customer (Belarusian NPP) and the general contractor (ASE), BELTA reports.

The checkup was conducted at the Belarusian NPP construction site in November and December 2017. The State Nuclear Energy Inspectorate, the State Industrial Inspectorate, rescuers, representatives of the Ministry of Nature and the Ministry of Healthcare, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and several other government agencies participated in the exercise. ‘An expert of the Delegation of the European Union to Belarus” was also present there.

The launch of the first power unit of the Belarusian NPP is scheduled for 2019;  the second power unit will be commissioned in 2020.
