FEMEN founder who once picketed Belarusian KGB commits suicide

Co-founder of feminist pressure group FEMEN Oksana Shechko, 31 has committed suicide in her apartment in Paris, nn.by reports quoting the movement leader Hanna Gutsol

Gutsol stressed that suicide is a preliminary cause of death, awaiting the results of the expertise later on 24 August.

The reason for the suicide is yet to be known. Reportedly, it was Shechko’s third suicide attempt. The woman left behind a suicide note in English “You are all a fake,” according to her friends.

Oksana Shechko was born in Khmelnitskiy, Ukraine. She moved to France a while ago.

Shechko participated in a FEMEN picket near the Belarusian KGB in 2011. Three topless women were holding posters with the inscriptions “Release political prisoners” and ‘Long live, Belarus!’ The action was dated to mark the anniversary of the Square 2010 protests in the Belarusian capital on 19 December. Shechko was the one holding the poster “Long live, Belarus!”
