Brest regional police chief apologizes to Pinsk pensioners
The chief of Brest Region Police Department calls actions of officers 'unprofessional' during an incident with elderly vendors in Pinsk.
"The checking is not over yet. It's too early to speak about the results. The position of the regional police has been published with the help of the state newspaper Zarya," the press office of Internal Affairs Administration of Brest regional executive committee comments to Euroradio on the notorious case about the ruthless detention of elderly pensioners in Pinsk.
The video of the detention grabbed a huge media and public attention in Belarus. Euroradio learned that a 56-year-old man was fined for intervering with the cases of administrative offence on July 9.
On July 16, Ivan Sauchyts, head of Internal Affairs Administration of Brest regional executive committee apologized to the detained pensioners through the local press: "True, there happened an incident in Pinsk. Very serious conclusions have been made, a teleconference has been held with participation of all heads of police departments. I apologize for the non-professional behaviour of the police officers. The investigatory Committee of Belarus will give a judicial assessment of their actions. We are carrying out an official internal investigation. It is obvious that the citizens did violate the Administrative Code, hence ended up facing charges, but the actions of the policemen were totally unprofessional."
