Hrodna to revive traditional social balls (photos, video)
Some 50 couples reconstructed a 19th-century social ball called Waltz Promenade for the first time ever in Hrodna.
People had a truely aristocratic dress code: ladies -- gowns with fans and feathers, and the gentlemen - tuxedos.
The ball opened in Hrodna Drama Theater with the toast of one of the most important persons of the city -- Deputy Chairman of the Hrodna City Executive Committee Barys Fyodarau. Then the stewards invited guests to the first dance -- polonaise. To those who could not dance, professionals showed the basic steps.
Besides dancing, time at the party was spent to describe the ballroom etiquette and traditions of the time, and the guests played traditional social games -- charades and forfeits.
The social event was conducted to live music performed by Minsk historical music band project Doux Souvenir. The atmosphere at the Hrodna ball was also created by a Minsk school of dance called Golden House.
