IMF mission arrives in Minsk again

Чарговая місія МВФ пачынае працу ў Мінску

An International Monetary Fund mission headed by Peter Dohlman is starting its work in Minsk on September 19. The mission will stay in Belarus until October 1.

Minsk hopes to get a $3-billion loan (with the annual interest rate of 2.28%) from the fund for 10 years.

When the previous IMF mission visited Belarus in June, the IMF positively assessed the reforms in the Belarusian economy, BelaPAN reports. However, it was necessary to deepen and accelerate them, Dohlman concluded in June. He also supported the Belarusian authorities’ plan to make the population cover 100% of the utilities bills by 2018.

The IMF mission expects the Belarusian GDP to drop 3% in 2016 and 0.5% in 2017.
