Lukashenka fears incorporation into 'some other state'

President Aliaksandr Lukashenka stated on 22 June when on a working visit to the Sklou district in eastern Belarus that the fate of the nation depends on the success of economy, namely its agricultural sector. He reiterated that all of his decisions should be executed.

"We are at the frontline. If we fail to hold out during these years, we will have to become part of some other state or nobody will ever respect us. They may even start a war in Belarus like in the neighboring Ukraine," Lukashenka said.

However, he did not elaborate where the threat of war emanated from and what country Belarus may become part of in the worst-case scenario.
