Lukashenka: I can lift Italian bicycle with my finger (video)
The Belarusian president explains the difference between Italian and Belarus-made bicycles during his visit to Motovelo plant in Minsk.
"Why do I choose my Italian bicycle out of the five I have and not yours?" STV quotes Lukashenka. “Why? Why don’t I use yours? [Lukashenka was talking to the director of the Belarusian enterprise] I have your bicycle hanging under the roof and I can hardly lift it using my two arms. When will you make a normal bicycle?” Lukashenka told Alyaksandr Murauyeu, Motovelo CEO.
Euroradio has asked several Minsk shops about Italian bicycles and their prices in Belarus. Shop assistants just spread their arms. They said that we had better google the information because they only sold usual bicycles. They could not even name any Italian brands.
Googling has revealed several Italian bicycles: Bianchi, Colnago, Ducati and others. Judging by the fact that Lukashenka's bicycle weighs 2 kilos, we can assume that his is using a road racing cycle. The average cost of such Italian bicycles is the same as the cost of an old foreign car. Colnago CLX 3.0 Shimano 105 costs about $3500, Colnago CLX 3.0 Shimano Ultegra 10s — $4000. The bicycles are expensive, because they are made of carbon. Belarus-made Aists (Storks) are made of aluminium.
