Medvedev proposes to prolong state loan to Belarus
He announced the proposal at today's meeting of the Russian government.
At the meeting on March 26 the Russian government discussed the state loan for Belarus. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev proposed to extend the loan.
"We agreed that we will help them in this difficult situation, in fact, we will prolong the existing loan obligations. Of course, this is based on our understanding of partnership. We have helped our partners before and will continue to help them. We will do this, but our Belarusian friends must also promptly remove the problems that arise in the trade and economic sphere," the website of the Russian government reported Medvedev as saying.
This year Belarus is to pay nearly $4 billion of loans.
