Opposition figure and ex-political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich on June 5 uploaded his first video appeal on YouTube, in which he urged Belarusians to come to Kastrycnickaja Square in Minsk at 2 p.m. on July 3. On that day, Belarus will be marking the official Independence Day, known before as the day Belarus' liberation from Nazi invaders.
In his video appeal, Statkevich accuses the state of lying. He mentios a policemen’s false witness testimony in court and suggests that MIA and KGB officers resign.
"We will go to the square on the Liberation Day to redeem ourselves and our souls from treachery, groveling and lies. If we free ourselves, we will liberate the country,” Statkevcih claimed.
