Mikalai Statkevich is deprived of driving license
Belarusian opposition politician and ex-political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich has been deprived of his driving license. Minsk's Leninski District Court has punished the politician for refusing to pay the fines imposed on him for participation in unauthorized actions. Statkevich was notified about the decision by post on April 27, BelaPAN reports.
According to the politician, it is possible to deprive people of driving licenses for such violations. However, the fines were illegal, he reckons. “I did not violate any laws,” Mikalai Statkevich said describing the situation as pressure on him.
Statkevich said he has to pay 10 fines. “They will deduct three of the fines from my military pension. They are illegally deducting 50% instead of 20% from the pension and are trying to make me pay the other fines,” BelaPAN quotes the opposition leader.
