Survival opposition's main achievement in 2013
Pro-democracy opposition leaders discuss 2013 achievements with Euroradio.
Leader of Tell the Truth Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu thinks that the campaign’s main achievement in 2013 was the political campaign People’s Referendum. It was the best supported campaign among all the other actions organized by Tell the Truth. Speaking about the results...
Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu: “There can only be one result in opposition politics – coming to power. That is why there is no result and there cannot be any by 2015. And it is unlikely to happen even then.”
Interestingly, Nyaklyayeu’s partners in the People’s Referendum, BFP and movement For Freedom leaders, do not consider the mentioned “political campaign” their main achievement. Alyaksandr Milinkevich thinks that his structure’s main achievement is… good mood!
Alyaksandr Milinkevich: “The best thing is we have kept the good mood! We have plenty of good plans and we are hoping to realize them.”
Deputy head of the BPF Party Ryhor Kastusyou did not recall the People’s Referendum either. He thinks that their main achievement is the fact that… mass media wrote about their party more than before!
Ryhor Kastusyou: “The party has worked well – mass media started paying more attention to the BPF Party as a separate political force. Unfortunately, the party kept losing attention in the past few years.”
Speaking about personal achievements, Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu mentioned the publication of his new book Punctuation Marks. Alyaksandr Milinkevich’s main achievement is … his granddaughter – the girl is very clever! Ryhor Kastusyou also surprised us. The first thing he remembered was... how many of his friends had passed away in 2013. And the fact that all his forecasts about the the public utilities came true.
The main goal of the United Civil Party is conducting a free and fair election. The party has not achieved the goal this year. However, there were several smaller achievements, Anatol Lyabedzka noted. He started with himself.
Anatol Lyabedzka: “I am going to start with myself: my main achievement was publishing the book 108 Days and Nights in KGB Prison in Belarusian and English. I made a number of presentations too.”
Lyabedzka also thinks that one of his party’s achievements was the fact that the government did not introduce “the VAT” and that the UCP joined Belarusians’ struggle against “the freeloader tax” and “the $100 fee for going abroad”.
The main achievement of the LDP is the influx if young people, Syarhei Haidukevich thinks. As for his personal achievements…
Syarhei Haidukevich: “I have lived up to the time when I am the oldest person in the party administration!”
His son and deputy Aleh Haidukevich thinks that his main achievement is his membership in the Supreme Council of the Party and that he is the second policeman who has become a politician after missing Minister Yury Zaharanka. It seems that Haidukevich Jr. does not take policemen MPs into account.
Leader of Fair World Syarhei Kalyakin was also original.
Syarhei Kalyakin: “Political parties and the opposition exist despite the fact that the state and power structures do not like it. Our main achievement of the year is survival.”
He did not recall anything when we asked him about personal achievements…
