"Belarusian issue" to be considered in Brussels today?
It may happen although it is not on the agenda.
Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the 27
countries-members of the EU will get together on February 27 in order to
discuss Syria, Egypt, South Caucasus, Kosovo, and the situation at the Middle
East. According to the information discovered by
Euroradio, the
"Belarusian issue" is not on the agenda. It was expected that the EU
would expand the "black list" of those who were responsible for
repressions today. In particular, EU's representative Gunnar Wiegand said this during his visit to Belarus. Maja Kocijancic, spokesperson
for the EU's High Representative, has said that the countries-members of the EU
"are working on definitions and means of additional pressure on the
Belarusian authorities" and that "this work is still in
progress". However, she admitted that the EU's Ministers might touch upon
the Belarusian issue, in an interview to BelaPAN.
This is supported also by the information published by RIA Novosti, which first appeared on February 23 and
has been repeated today. The Russian informational agency claims that the EU
will expand sanctions against Belarus on February 27, with a reference to a
diplomatic source in the European Union: "According to the EU's
representative, the limitations will concern new officials and companies".
Also, the common statement of
the state leaders of Belarus and Russia, in which they condemned sanctions against our
country, appeared on February 24 not accidentally.
