EU ready to start talks with Belarus on visa regime facilitation
The Council of the EU has given the green light to the European Commission to start talks on short-term visa facilitation and readmission.
The Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council took the decision on February 28, reports the press service of the EU delegation in Belarus.
Let us remind you that the European Commission recommended that the Council of the EU should have mandated it to conduct the corresponding negotiations in mid November last year. The Council of Foreign Ministers stressed the importance of promoting interpersonal contacts between Belarus and the EU on January 31.
The visa regime facilitation should result in an increasing number of contacts between Belarusian and EU citizens and the readmission should create a legal basis for returning Belarusian illegal immigrants home, notes the EU delegation.
