EU youth organizations demand to abolish visas for Belarusians
The biggest youth organizations in Europe adopted a joint statement on March 18.
According
to the information provided by charter97.org, the document was signed by Young European
Federalists — JEF-Europe, European Youth Forum, European Democrat Students –
EDS, European Liberal Youth — LYMEC, Federation of Young European Greens –
FYEG, International Federation of Liberal Youth — IFLRY, International Union of
Socialist Youth – IUSY, Youth of the European People’s Party — YEPP, Young
European Socialists — YES.
The signers decried Europe’s last dictatorship and showed support for the
Belarusian people. The EU youth organization demand abolition of the death
penalty in Belarus. They also stand for freedom of media and the democratic
elections in Belarus. The youth activists insist that the EU should form a
clear position with regard to Alyaksandr Lukashenka's regime and stand for the
sanctions against the regime.
The signers also suggest giving a helping hand to those Belarusians who need
support of the EU. In particular, they claim that Young Belarusians should have
the right to move freely around Europe to meet and exchange with their peers.
