Euroradio tests tablet computers produced by "Horizont" (photo)
When we tried to browse our web-site, this miracle of import-replacing blinked and said goodbye - the battery went off.
The booth of "Horizont" has become a hit at the exhibition TIBO 2012 as they presented... three models of the first Belarusian slate and tablet computers.
"These are experimental models so far, we are studying the market, the demand. This TIBO exhibition is the first place where we have showed them", - marketing director of "Horizont" Volha Kuzmitskaya tells Euroradio.
She enlisted the shortcomings of the Belarusian iPad on the spot.
"The period of response is too long, the ergonomy is not very convenient - they placed the buttons on the top and we see it will be inconvenient to push them. The menu is not in the correct place. These are the things we are going to elaborate and upgrade".
Euroradio's correspondent was allowed to hold the device in his hands, after a long persuasion. It did not want to switch on at first, the correspondent had to walk around the pavillions waiting for the battery to charge.
The tablet computer is heavy and not very convenient in use. The system Android 2.2 has been obsolete for a long time by now. A couple of minutes later it becomes clear that the tablet computer follows its own laws. A long period of response - it was put politely. Surfing the Internet is also out of the question - when we tried to browse Euroradio's web-site, the "Horizont" tablet computer blinked and said goodbye - the battery went off.
I asked whether there was anything Belarusian about this computer.
"Belarusian? Of course. However, I cannot tell exactly what. The micro-circuits can be produced by our booth neighbours - "Integral". As for software, firmware - this is clear. I think there are no less Belarusian parts and fittings in these tablet computers than in our TV-sets".
The only hope is that the Belarusian tablet computer will not cost too much. However, "Horizont" employees disappointed us in that. They are going to upgrade their first computer and sell it for "average prices in this segment".
"As for the prices... We will try to go for the market price. No one needs an expensive Belarusian product, in the whole Belarusian economy. The same is with our TV-sets. Our strategy is to combine prices and quality reasonably. We cannot set a dumping price as there will be complaints about the quality. At the same time, it's not going to be a VIP-product".
"Horizont" promises that it will be possible to buy the Belarusian iPad already in a year. However, the attentive Chinese have already copied the device and suggest it here.
