Julia Tymoshenko's adherents clash with police in Kyiv (photo)
People started gathering near the Piacherski court right after they found out that the former Ukrainian PM would be in custody.
The participants of the spontaneous demonstration in support of Julia Tymoshenko "regained" a metal fence from the police and barricaded Khreschatyk. They totally paralyzed the traffic movement, UNIAN reports. They wanted not to let the police van with arrested Tymoshenko go.
Policemen removed people out of the way by force in order to make a corridor for the police van to drive through. One of the protesters fell under the wheels but the others managed to drag him back.
Julia Tymoshenko is accused of excess of powers when signing gas contracts with Russia. She faces up to 7 years of imprisonment.
