Karel Schwarzenberg: Belarus remains Eastern Partnership member
The Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic has commented on the absence of our country’s representative at the meeting of the Eastern Partnership and Visegrád
"Belarus was invited to the meeting of the Visegrád Group and Eastern Partnership because Belarus is a neighbour from the Eastern Partnership. But they refused to come, they said that they had not been invited on the level of the Foreign Minister and it was true. The reason for it was the events that had taken place in Minsk. So they did not arrive. But the country is a member of the Eastern Partnership programme”, - said Karel Schwarzenberg in an interview with Radio Liberty.
Let us remind you that the official Minsk was invited to the mentioned meeting on the level of the deputy Foreign Minister.
High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle also took part in the conference in Prague. The statement expressing anxiety in connection with the situation in Belarus and the worsening relations between Brussels and Minsk was adopted there. The Visegrád Group Ministers noted that the dialogue with the Belarusian authorities could be resumed if their policy was changed and all political prisoners were released and acquitted.
