Lukashenka demands army upgrade
The Belarus president tells Defense Minister Yury Zhadobin to improve the quality of armed forces.
Lukashenka: "We have agreed to evaluate our army once again and take a decision towards improvement. We don't need to choose the wrong path of development (because it means huge expenditures). Rather, we need to have an army that meets today's challenges. The same applies to the quantity, personnel and the structure of Armed Forces. Therefore, we have decided to gather clever heads - we have enough of them in our army, so that they analyze once again the prospects for our army, given the recent developments in different parts of the world. This is the bottomline."
The head of the state also told the defense minister to boost discipline and performance of military units. He stressed it makes no sense to keep and purchase outdated weapons, because they are of no use in contemporary warfare.
By and large, Lukashenka gave a positive assessment of Defense Ministry's performance.
