Olympic champion Yuliya Nestsyarenka deprived of salary

The Belarusian open track and field athletics championship was organized in Hrodna on July 7 and 8. Olympic champion Yuliya Nestsyarenka was second in the 100-metre dash with the result of 11.58 seconds. Meanwhile, the standard of the International Association of Athletics Federations is 11.29 seconds. The next world championship will take place in South Korea on August 27 - September 4. Yuliya Nestsyarenka who was offered to take part in the 4x100 relay has refused to do it.

Yuliya’s coach Zmitser Nestsyarenka says that the sportswoman has been very tired for several years.

“Yulya will not go to the world championship. She would like to have a rest and to get ready for the Olympics. She has been working without vacations for 8 years. She shows good results in training sessions but it happens once a week. And you get different results several days later – it is because she does not have time to recover. She was diagnosed with “chronic overstrain” a year ago.

Yulya is in Brest now and she will be in vacations until the end of summer. Zmitser Nestsyarenka used to complain that Yulya’s salary paid by the Ministry for Sport was mere tokenism. But she has been deprived of it recently.

“She has her military wage and that’s it. The Ministry stopped paying wages 1.5 months ago. Our country announced that you could not have two wages. So Yulya is paid 1.5 million roubles now”.

Taking into account Netstsyarenka’s refusal to take part in the world championship, the question whether Belarus national team would take part in the relay race or not arose. However, the Athletic Federation has assured Euroradio that the Belarusian team will take part in the relay race.

Secretary General of the Athletic Federation Tatstsyana Lyadouskaya has commented on the results of the Belarusian championship.

“I wish the girls showed better results in the Olympic year. The long sprint girls have just returned after maternity leaves, four out of five are mothers now. Getting back to the big sport is a gradual process. We still have one more year to improve our results. But our results are rather bad in the short sprint”.

The main competition of the year will begin in 1.5 months. The team will be training in Staiki and in Minsk. According to Tatstsyana Lyadouskaya, no training sessions are planned abroad because it is necessary to save foreign currency. However, the training conditions satisfy everyone.

Answering the question about Nestsyarenka’s participation in the world championship, Lyadouskaya said that the sportswoman had expressed such a desire.
