Russian MP: Deal on airbase in Belarus is most likely to be signed
Russia's leadership will find what to offer the head of Belarus in order to have the agreement on the deployment of a Russian airbase signed, the member of the lower house of the Russian parliament Duma Dmitry Gudkov tells Euroradio in an exclusive interview.
Gudkov: “Given that NATO has become more active in European countries and taking into account the military lobby in the Russian government, I believe Russia will find what to offer Belarus to get the deal signed. Lukashenka has always been a skillful negotiator with ability to get some benefits for Belarus in relations with Russia. The agreement will most probably be signed."
As of today, a conflict with NATO is in the interest of Russia, because it can be used to explain all domestic problems. Correspondingly, Russian will demonstrate its readiness to enter into conflict with NATO. An airbase in Belarus is an element of such demonstration, maintains Dmitry Gudkov.
The full interview with Dmitry Gudkov by Euroradio's special correspondent Zmicier Lukashuk will be soon available on Euroradio's website.
