Russian warship helps 9 Belarusians leave Yemen
308 citizens of 19 states have been evacuated.
The Russian warship Priazoviye has evacuated 308 citizens of 19 states from Yemen. There were nine Belarusians among them, BELTA refers to official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defence Major General Igor Konoshenkov.
The vessel transported the foreigners to the African port Djibouti, Konoshenkov said. The Russian warship is fulfilling planned piracy prevention tasks in the Gulf of Aden.
33 Belarusians were evacuated from Yemen earlier.
A civil war involving other Arab states is being waged in Yemen. 643 people have died and over 2200 have been injured in the war, the World Health Organization reports. Over 254 thousand Yemenites have left the country.
