Uralkali CEO detained after meeting with PM Myasnikovich
Vladislav Baumgertner is being held in Belarus capital Minsk, facing charges of office abuse.
According to Uralkali PR manager Alexander Babinski, Uralkali CEO was invented to Belarus by Prime Minister Mihail Myasnikovich to discuss issues with regard to the operation of Belarusian Potash Company (BPC). They met, and then Baumgertner was detained at the airport before his departure.
The Uralkali Board of directors Chairman Alexander Voloshin and key shareholder and one of Russia's top oligarchs Suleiman Kerimov were also invited to Minsk but did not come, RIA Novosti reports.
Uralkali CEO caused damage to Belarus’ national interests, the spokesamn for Belarusian Investigatory Committee said. Vladislav Baumgertner was accused of power abuse.
Vladislav Baumgertner is also the head of the supervisory board of Belarusian Potash Company. Several other members of BPC top management are wanted by Belarusian investigators via Interpol. Member of the supervisory board Oleg Petrov, senior deputy director general Konstatin Solodovnikov and head of the freight department Dmitry Samoilov are among the suspects.
