01:43 Ukraine grabs Europe's attention

The European Commission is monitoring thoroughly the developments in Ukraine.

Brussels is concerned over the current political crisis, but says external interference could not be a solution.

The developments in Kiev hve not affected the ongoing negotiations on a new strategic deal between Ukraine and EU and the currently running cooperation programs, said Christine Homan, a European Commission's spokesperson.

Brussels sees the political stability in Ukraine as a very important factor for the continuation of reforms in that country.

NATO officials and the U.S. State Department have made similar statements.

Javier Solana, the European Union's foreign policy and security chief, also said he was keeping an eye on the current political impasse in Kiev.
