35 more opposition activists register nominating groups for elections
Constituency election commissions in Belarus have registered 428 nominating groups to collect signatural for the nomination of candidates for the seats in the House of Representatives. There are 106 nominating groups in Minsk (highest number) and 48 in the Viciebsk region (lowest).
Last Friday, 69 opposition party activists had their nominating groups registered. BELTA reports 35 more people from the opposition parties joined the list. United Civic Party has the highest number of registered nominating groups (34 against 24 on Friday, Belrusian Popular Front (27 against 16), Belarusian Leftist Party 'Fair World' (23 against 16), Belarusian Social-Democratic Party - Hramada (14 against 12), Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada - just one.
479 applications were submitted to constituency election commissions. Some of them are being reviewed. Euroradio reported earlier that the nominating group of ex-political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich was not registered because of his conviction.
The parliamentary elections in Belarus will take place on September 11.
