Ales Mіhalevіch: “Nobody needs me. On the whole, I am happy about it!”
Not a single KGB member has contacted Ales Mihalevich in the five days since he made his statement about tortures.
Former presidential candidate Ales Mihalevich made a scandalous statement that he was a victim of tortures in the KGB detention centre 5 days ago, on February 28.
“They made us enter a big cold room in the basement, undressed us and made us do the splits naked… They broke our legs – they made us move them apart so we actually did the splits. The ligaments ached terribly. They made us stand a meter or a meter and a half away from the wall so that our arms would become swollen and we stood like that for 40 minutes", — said Mihalevich to Euroradio on air.
Ales Mihalevich did not exclude that he would be jailed after the statement on February 28. However, the politician informed Euroradio on March 4 that not a single member of the Stet Security Committee had contacted him in the previous five days at liberty:
Ales Mihalevich: "The State Security Committee has not contacted me, I have not been invited to interrogations. The Prosecutor’s Office where I sent my statement about tortures in KGB has not contacted me either. There has been no reaction but a comment made by the KGB press sectary where he said that it was not true and that it was not good to trust information published on the Internet. There has been no other reaction from the press. I am at home, my phone is always on, nobody visits me and nobody needs me. On the whole, I am happy about it”
In Ales Mihalevich’s opinion, KGB has no legal reason to change his measure of restraint to arrest again even after the statement.
Ales Mihalevich: "There is no legal reason to arrest me again, to change my measure of restraint and imprison them again. Furthermore, the information I uncovered is a law violation and it cannot be considered to be investigative privacy. I have to keep the investigative privacy and I did not say anything about the investigation. A serous political decision had to be taken to imprison me again and it would have indicated that I had told the truth. As far as I understand, they have decided that it was better not to react to it in any way”.
The non-interference of KGB member in the politician’s life is aimed at stressing that there is nothing to arrest him for because the information he distributed is a lie.
Ales Mihalevich: "In any case, it will be bad for the authorities no matter what they do now – arrest and imprison me or not. As a citizen, I am trying to do everything to stop the tortures and to help release political prisoners. Furthermore, I have a lot of things to do now and they are connected with politics. It concerns my legal firm. You know, if the director is imprisoned for two months, many things get “broken” in a company. So you should not expect any political statements from me in the near future”.
